Um pouco sobre Florianópolis, em inglês
Hello! Aqui é o Julian e atualmente moro em Florianópolis/SC. E hoje eu vou propor um exercício de treinar o LISTENING e compreensão oral de vocês, falando um pouco sobre Florianópolis em inglês. Vamos lá?
Antes de começar, gostaria de avisar que eu vou estar falando sobre a cidade, então eu vou usar o tempo verbal no presente.
Mas também irei mencionar, quando for usar no passado, ou no “Present Perfect”.

PRESENT
Florianópolis is the capital city of the State of Santa Catarina. It is also known as Floripa, or “A Ilha da Magia“, the Magic Island.
PAST
Agora uma frase no passado:
Florianópolis was founded on March 23, 1673.
PRESENT
Florianópolis is one of the three island capitals of Brazil.
Do you know the other 2?
They are Vitória, in Espírito Santo, and São Luís, in Maranhão.
PRESENT PERFECT
Agora uma frase no “Present Perfect”. Usamos o “Present Perfect” para falar de algo que começou no passado, e continua até o presente.
Florianópolis has been the capital of Santa Catarina since 1823.
PRESENT
The postcard of the city is the Hercílio Luz bridge behind me.
It’s 820 meters long and connects the island to the mainland.
(Mainland é como ‘continente’.)
PAST
Agora algumas frases usando o passado:
The Hercilio Luz bridge was constructed from 1922 to 1926.
The bridge was closed in 1982, re-opened from 1988 until 1991, when it was closed again.
And after years of renovations, it was finally re-opened in December of 2019.
PRESENT
Agora voltando para presente:
There are at least 42 beaches on the island, and even more according to some.
Some of the most famous are Jurerê, Ingleses, Mole, Joaquina, and Campeche.
The population of Florianópolis is about 500,000 people.
And in the metropolitan area, which includes São Jose, Palhoça and Biguaçu, there are about 1.3 million inhabitants.
Floripa’s economy is heavily based on information technology, tourism and the service industry.
Its natural beauty, fishing, folklore, traditions, artisanal handmade lace (isso é renda, das rendeiras), cuisine and colonial architecture are just a few of the areas that contribute to the culture here.
If you like history, Santo Antônio de Lisboa and Ribeirão da Ilha are 2 of the oldest neighborhoods on the island.
Now a little bit about football, right?
The 2 largest clubs on the island are Avaí and Figueirense.

Figueirense was founded in 1921 and Avaí was founded in 1923.

PRESENT PERFECT
I have lived in Floripa since September of 2018.
PAST
Agora o passado:
I lived in Estreito for the first few months, and after I moved to Coqueiros.
After a year there, I moved to Campeche, where I live now.
PRESENT
Voltando pro presente:
For me, the quality of life in Florianópolis is excellent.
And if you like Seafood, for example:
Oysters, Mussels, Shrimp, Salmon, Tuna… Octopus!
Everything here is really good and really fresh.
After, I’m gonna make a video down at the fish market, to show you a little bit about what I’m talking about.
